Remembering the Year 1999!
Year 1999 - Our Club had quite a busy year again, as we have had in the past. Though this year we did more with only a few charities.
In February, March, May and September we collected items to donate to the Catherine Boothe House in Seattle. This is a shelter for battered women and children to live while they rebuild their lives. Donations of clothing, household items, and even a couple of computers with printers. They are a division of the Salvation Army.
In May, we collected way too much stuff for the Boothe House to utilize, so the folks at the American Legion accepted it to us in their rummage sale. The money collected from the sale was put into their treasury for their charity work. We also continued to keep our adopted road clean. March and September were the months we organize to do this.
In April, we went north to Lummi Island to do some clean-up work there. Winter storms had washed up debris into the fishing area and they needed help cleaning the area up for the summer commercial fishing season. Some of the people affected here lived on the money earned during salmon season.
July was our first annual golf tournament. This event was a stellar one, where we raised over $3400 in donations to split between Wolf Haven and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The success of this event was overwhelming and we will continue this one!
In August we challenged members to donate blood. Those that could did, others had too much alcohol in their system to do it. ? The Stream Team event hit at a time when many of our members were at MOTM. We did have some people attend this event, which is another club favorite.
In December, we had our Holiday party and collected tons of Toys for Tots. These were taken to the Bangor Submarine Base in Silverdale to distribute to the Navy families there who needed them.
